Below are some of the more frequently asked questions about our Secondment programme from a candidates point of view.

Q. What is a secondment?

A loan of an employee to a different organisation.

Q. Why would I want to do a secondment?

This is a valuable tool in your personal development and career enhancement and a key part of your home employer's Talent Management process, allowing you to experience and apply your skills in a new organisational environment.

Q. Who will pay me?

Your ‘home’ employer – this will not change.

Q. Who will I advise if I am off ill/absent?

Your ‘home’ employer first followed by your 'host' employer.

Q. How will any supervisory and disciplinary matters be dealt with?

A mechanism will be agreed between the host and home organisations and communicated to you.

Q. How long will my secondment last?

Usually 6-9 months and up to but no longer than a maximum of 11 months.

Q. How will performance management and development be managed?

This will be clearly outlined and documented to you prior to your commencement.

Q. Will I be measured and targeted in my role?

Secondments offer a clear business need and specific outcomes will be required – these will be outlined by the ‘host’ organisation.

Q. How will I know what the host organisation does?

A valued secondee induction will be delivered by the host organisation.

Q. How will the end of the secondment be managed?

All parties will be involved in agreeing this. Detailed 360⁰ feedback will be obtained from your host and home organisations.
